Coffee pods are one of the more common types of packaging for single cup coffee. The pod itself is not an engineering marvel at all. It is simply a small amount of ground coffee or tea sandwiched between 2 small round coffee filters. The edges are sealed so the coffee won’t escape.
Systems that use pods are quite simple. The coffee pods is placed in a small holder and slid into the machine. Hot water is then dripped on the pod, running through the coffee and into your cup. The pod can then be thrown away. A very small and simple coffee machine with little clean up.
Pods are popular among single cup coffee machines. There are even gadgets out there that allow you to press and seal your own pods at home, saving you a bit of money, if you have the patience to do it.
